3. Charging voltage
9 Connect the engine tachometer to the spark
plug lead.
9 Connect the pocket tester (DC 20 V) to the
battery as shown.

Positive tester probe
positive battery terminal
Negative tester probe
negative battery terminal
9 Start the engine and let it run at approxi-
mately 5,000 r/min.
9 Measure the charging voltage.
Charging voltage
14 V at 5,000 r/min
NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
9 Is the charging voltage within specification?
NO

The charging circuit
is OK.

4. Charging coil resistance
9 Disconnect the stator coil coupler from the
wire harness.
9 Connect the pocket tester (
charging coil terminals as shown.
Positive tester probe
Negative tester probe
9 Measure the charging coil resistances.
Charging coil resistance
0.38–0.58 Ω at 20° C (68° F) (W – B)
9 Is the charging coil OK?
YES

5. Wiring
9 Check the wiring connections of the entire
charging system.
Refer to "CIRCUITDIAGRAM".
9 Is the charging system wiring properly con-
nected and without defects?
YES
Replace the rectifi-
er/regulator.
