Chapter 1

1.1.3.4.5 Cassette is unable to be pulled in completely due to depletion of grease at the sliding part

0031-8486
[ Verified by Canon Inc. ]
Symptom
If open/close motion of cassette has been performed 2,500 times or more (corresponding to passing through 1,250K sheets), the cassette may stop before being
pulled in completely.
Cause
To reduce the load of sliding between the cassette and the cassette rail, also between the registration and the pickup unit, grease is applied on the sliding part.
Repetition of open/close motion of cassette consumes the grease applied on the sliding part gradually. This increases the sliding load and eventually the symptom
above occurs.
Service work
Apply the grease (MOLYKOTE EM-50L GREASE) to the relevant 4 locations.
1) Apply the grease on the 2 spots on the back side of the cassette.
1-1) Pull the cassette and let the cassette come out until it touches to the stopper [2] as loosening the screw [1].
1-2) Pull out the right side of the cassette [A] with the front side lifted with hands, and detach the cassette [1] by moving it to the right.
1-3) Apply the grease in an amount of 3 grains of rice to the entire sliding part [1] between the regist/paper pickup unit of the back side of the cassette.
[Caution] Do not attach the grease on the area [2].
