SET-UPGUIDEFORRECEIVING CALLS
Your fax has a variety of ways in which it can receive incoming calls. Set your fax
as described below to best suit your situation.
You have a separate telephone line for your fax, and will only use it to send and
receive fax messages.
Set the fax's reception mode to FAX as described in "Receiving Documents" in
Chapter 3. You will probably also want to reset Option Setting 2 (the number of
rings the fax waits before automatically answering a call) to 2 to 4 rings as de-
scribed in Chapter 6.
You subscribe to a distinctive ringing service from your telephone company
which allows you to use several different devices, each with its own phone
number and ringing pattern, on one line.
Select a ringing pattern for your fax as described in the following section, "Distinc-
tive Ringing". You will also need to set your fax's reception mode to FAX as de-
scribed in "Receiving Documents" in Chapter 3.
You will be making and receiving voice calls as well as fax messages on the line
connected to your fax.
Read "Receiving ~ocuments" in Chapter 3 and decide whether you want to set
your fax's reception mode to FAX or TEL. For information on making phone calls,
read "Making Telephone Calls" in Chapter 3.
You have connected an answering machine to your fax to receive both voice
calls and fax messages on the same line while you are out,
Read Chapter 4, "Answering Machine Connection".
