Power
The POWER switch doesn't
@ The power cord is disconnected.

@ The VCR is in timer standby mode.
Time and Date Clock
The clock has stopped and
"~;—-—" lights up.
There has been a power interruption. Reset the time,
date and timer settings. Then transmit set data to the
VCR.
TV Reception
The reception is poor.
The channel for the VCR is not correctly tuned on the TV.
The TV signal is weak. Adjust the direction of the
antenna.
The AC power cord of the VCR is disconnected.
Recording and
Playback
Shaky and/or snowy picture
during recording.
@ The TV's channel is not set to the one preset for the
VCR.
The TV signal is weak. Adjust the direction of the
antenna.
No picture on the TV screen.
Press TV/VTR so that the VTR indication appears in
the display window.
The channel is not set to, Ch 3 or Ch 4 or the video
input has not been selected at the monitor.
Make firm connection of S VIDEO connector.
Clean the video heads. (See page 86.)
The VCR won't record.
No cassette has been inserted.
The cassette is at its end.
INPUT SELECT is not set correctly.
Remove the S video connecting cable from the S
VIDEO IN when the cable is not used.
The playback picture is not
clear.
The channel for the VCR is not correctly tuned on the TV.
The video heads are dirty. Clean the heads using the Sony
V8-25 CLH Video head cleaning cassette. For details on
cleaning, refer to the instructions furnished with the cleaning
cassette. If a cleaning cassette is not available in your area,
have the heads cleaned at your nearest Sony Service
Center facility. (Do not use a commercially available wet-
typed cleaning cassette. It may damage the video heads.
The viodeo heads are worn out.
Select SHARPNESS to adjust its setting to your
preference in the PICTURE ADJUST dispay.
Noisy picture
Place the VCR away from a TV.
Tape is defective. Use a new cassette.
The picture moves vertically
during picture search mode.
@ Adjust the vertical hold contriol on the TV or color
monitor.
The sound drops out.
@ The cassette is defected.
Use a new video cassette.
Stereo recording cannot be
made.
AUTO STEREO
is set OFF in the SET UP MENU.
A reception signal is not strong enough, and a stereo
signal is received in monaural.
Both main and SAP sounds
are heard or no SAP sound is
heard when playing back a
cassette on which a multi-
channel TV sound (MTS)
broadcast was recorded.
AUDIO MONITOR selector is set to MIX or to PCM. Set
AUDIO MONITOR selector to STD.
A cassette is ejected if the
REC button is pressed.
