Configuring fail-safe technology CPU
The SIMATIC Drive Controller contains a fail-safe SIMATIC S7-1500 technology CPU with
integrated technology I/Os.
Note the following information when you use the SIMATIC Drive Controller as fail-safe
technology CPU.
Safety and standard mode
The fail-safe design of the integrated technology CPU allows you to implement applications
for safety systems, for example, safety solutions for the protection of machines and people.
This enables seamless integration of machine safety into the SIMATIC Drive Controller. You
use one system for both your standard and fail-safe automation at the same time.
You can program the F-CPU of the SIMATIC Drive Controller for safety mode or standard
mode.
For safety mode, a license for STEP 7 Safety needs to be installed. If no license for STEP 7
Safety is installed, you can only use the SIMATIC Drive Controller in standard mode.
Enabling/disabling the F-capability in STEP 7
By default, the F-capability is enabled for the SIMATIC Drive Controller in STEP 7.
If you wish to change the setting of the F-capability, follow these steps:
1. Highlight the F-CPU in the device view or network view and select the "Properties" tab in the
Inspector window.
2. Select "Fail-safety" in the area navigation.
3. Enable/disable the F-capability using the corresponding button.
4. If you want to disable the F-capability, confirm the "Turning off the F-activation" dialog with
"Yes".
Disabling F-capability with existing safety program
When you disable the F-capability for an F-CPU because you want to use the F-CPU as a
standard CPU even though a safety program is installed, you must note the following:
• You need the password if a password was assigned to the safety program.
• The Safety Administration editor is deleted from the project tree.
• The F-OBs are deleted.
• All F-blocks are deleted.
• You can no longer use the F-I/O in safety mode with this F-CPU.
• For SINAMICS Integrated, you can no longer control the Safety Integrated functions via
PROFIsafe but only via terminals.
