Answer - Yes. Normally closed devices will work with Access Easy Controller. Access Easy
Controller can monitor both normally open and normally closed devices. The controller data-
base is defaulted to expect normally open type devices; however, it is an easy task to change
the setting of any input point to expect normally closed type operation.
Question - The CPU Card was faulty and I did backup the latest soft copy of the database. Is
there any other way I could recover my data?
Answer - Yes, if fault was not due to the compact flash memory card, we could just replace the
Access Easy Controller CPU and insert the previous compact flash memory card and the sys-
tem will work as per previous configuration.
Question - When the server is configuring the connected controller's IP address, why is the
subnet mask and gateway not required especially when they are connected on different sub-
net?
Answer - It is not required because both the server and individual controllers have already
defined what their subnet mask is and where is their gateway. For example, when the server
(129.2.0.42, gateway 129.2.0.254) is sending some information to the controllers (129.5.x.x,
gateway 129.5.x.254), since these controllers are not within the same subnet it will be routed
to his gateway (129.2.0.254). Similarly when the controllers want to return the acknowledge-
ment, it will be routed through the gateway (129.5.x.254).

Reader and Door Questions

Question - What is the maximum cable length between the Access Easy Controller and any
card reader?
Answer - The maximum cable length between the controller and the reader is 150m when
using the recommended Paige 6-conductor shielded cable. Maximum cable length will be less
when using non-standard cable.
Question - Reader 1 through 4 were easy to install and make operational. However, I am hav-
ing difficulty getting the readers above 4 to operate. What could be causing this?
Answer - This is probably a database issue. Because all Access Easy Controllers contain
reader card 1, the database is defaulted with the first four readers enabled. When adding
additional reader interface cards to the controller, you will need to activate the additional
readers in the database before they will start working.
To do this, select Card Readers from Access Easy Controller menu. Then, from the reader list
screen select the reader that you want to make operational. When this reader's detail screen
is displayed, click on Next to go to the second page of detail data.
If you look at the Scheduling Options section on this page, you will see that Unlock Reader is
selected. Deselect Unlock Reader by choosing one of the other scheduling options; then click
on the "Save" button to save the modified record. The reader should now be operational.
