Derating

The load capacity (current and power) decreases if the installation site altitude exceeds
1000 meters (3281 ft), or if the ambient temperature exceeds 45 °C (113 °F).

Ambient temperature derating

In the temperature range +45 °C (+113 °F) ... +55 °C (+131 °F), the rated output current is
decreased by 2.5% for every additional 1 °C (1.8 °F). The output current is calculated by
multiplying the current given in the rating table by the derating factor.
Example If the ambient temperature is 55 °C (+131 °F), the derating factor is
100% - 2.5 %/°C · 10 °C = 75% or 0.75. The output current is then 0.75 · I
For converter output current derating based on coolant inlet temperature, see section
Temperature limits (page

Altitude derating

At altitudes above 1000 m (3281 ft) above sea level, the derating is 1% for every 100 m
(328 ft) on maximum continuous current. This can be compensated by reducing maximum
ambient air temperature by 1 °C (1.8 °F) for every 100 m (328 ft). Derating is allowed only
on maximum continuous current for grid and generator. If the installation site is located
higher than 2000 m (6562 ft) above sea level, contact your local ABB representative.
