CAUTION
If you leave the key in the ignition switch, someone could accidently start the engine and seriously injure
you or other bystanders.
Remove the key from the ignition and disconnect the wire from the spark plug before you do any
maintenance. Set the wire aside so that it does not accidentally contact the spark plug.
Premaintenance
Procedures
Before opening any of the covers, shut off the engine and
remove the key. Allow the engine to cool before opening
any covers
Important: If you will be tilting the machine more than
25 degrees, clamp off the vent hose on the top of the fuel
tank
(Figure
62) to prevent fuel from fouling the carbon
canister.

Opening the Hood

1. Loosen the hood-locking screw

2. Turn the hood latch clockwise
3. Swing the hood up
4. Swing the prop rod up and secure it in the bracket on
the hood

Closing the Hood

1. Pull the prop rod out of the bracket on the hood and
lower it into its holder.
2. Lower the hood and secure it by pushing down on the
front of the hood until it locks in place.
3. Tighten the hood-locking screw to secure the latch
(Figure
25).
Opening the Rear-Access
Cover
1. Unscrew the 2 hand knobs securing the rear-access
cover to the machine

2. Tilt the rear-access cover down and remove to access
the internal components
