1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 82.
3. Remove any parts that might prevent your access to the storage drive bracket. Depending on your
computer model, you might have to remove the optical drive or the storage drive in the optical drive bay.

4. Remove the storage drive bracket. See "Replacing the storage drive" on page 85.
5. Remove the memory modules. See "Replacing a memory module" on page 98.
6. Remove the heat sink and fan assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 99.
7. Remove the Wi-Fi card. See "Replacing the Wi-Fi card" on page 103.
8. Remove the PCI Express card. See "Replacing the PCI Express card" on page 107.
9. Record the cable routing and cable connections, and then disconnect all cables from the system board.

10. Remove the six screws that secure the system board, and then carefully lift the system board out of
the chassis.
Note: Carefully handle the system board by its edges.

11. Remove the microprocessor from the failing system board, and then install it onto the new system
board. See "Replacing the microprocessor" on page 100.
12. Align the six screw holes in the new system board with the corresponding screw holes in the chassis.
Then, install the six screws to secure the system board.
13. Route all the cables that you disconnected from the failing system board, and then reconnect the cables
to the new system board. See "Parts on the system board" on page 34.
14. Reinstall the PCI Express card. See "Replacing the PCI Express card" on page 107.
15. Reinstall the Wi-Fi card. See "Replacing the Wi-Fi card" on page 103.
16. Reinstall the heat sink and fan assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 99.
17. Reinstall the memory modules. See "Replacing a memory module" on page 98.
