3.1.3.1 Ink Out Error Occurs After You Replace the Printhead
When you replace the printhead, you must follow the ink cartridge
replacement sequence shown in
is unique to the EPSON Stylus COLOR 900/900N and must be followed
exactly, or the printer may display the Ink Out error even after you install
new ink cartridges. See
"Ink Out (Overheating) Error Occurs After
You Replace the Printhead"
If the printer displays the Ink Out error after you replace the printhead
and install new ink cartridges, perform the sequence of steps listed in
Table 3-28
below.
C A U T I O N
To prevent damage to the printhead, do not reuse the ink
cartridges you just installed. Reinstalling used ink
cartridges lets air in and causes the Ink Consumption
Counter to lose track of the actual ink supply. Eventually,
the ink cartridges may run out and damage the printhead.

Make sure the printer is on.

Press the Load/Eject button for three seconds. The printer enters
the ink cartridge replacement sequence and the carriage moves to
the black ink cartridge replacement position.

Remove the old black ink cartridge. Insert a new ink cartridge,
close the ink cartridge clamp, and then press the Cleaning button
to move the carriage to the color ink cartridge replacement
position.

Remove the old color ink cartridge. Insert a new ink cartridge,
close the ink cartridge clamp, and then press the Cleaning button.
The printer performs the ink charge operation.

Input the 22-digit printhead ID. (See
127.)

Using the adjustment program, reset the Initial Ink Charge Flag
and then turn the printer off. After 10 seconds, turn the printer back
on and let it perform the Initial Ink Charge sequence to charge the
new printhead completely. (See
145.)

Perform the other adjustments required after replacing the
printhead:
"Printhead Angular Adjustment"
"Bi-Directional Adjustment"
