the Error 1 state. At this time, it performs a head cleaning cycle and
then resumes printing at a lower drive frequency. This reduces the
amount of heat produced by the printer. (The printer normally
operates at 14.4 KHz to perform 1440-dpi horizontal printing at 200
cps carriage speed. In the error state, the printer reduces its head
drive frequency to 7.2 KHz and its carriage speed to 100 cpi.)

C, the printer stops printing and displays the Ink Out
error on the control panel. In case clogged printhead nozzles
caused the printer to overheat, the Ink Out error forces the user to
replace the ink cartridges. This helps clear the nozzles and restore
the normal operating temperature. See
on page 36.
2.3.9.1 Ink Out (Overheating) Error Occurs After You Replace
the Printhead
When you replace the printhead, you must follow the ink cartridge
replacement sequence described in
printer may go into the Error 2 state described above and display the
Ink Out error even after you install new ink cartridges.
The error occurs because the printhead's nozzle selector ICs are
manufactured by two different vendors, Sharp and EPSON. Their
temperature feedback circuits are slightly different. When you install a
new printhead, it may conflict with the current printhead ID (the value
stored in the EEPROM that compensates for variations in printhead
manufacturing). When you start to print, the conflict causes the printer
to perceive the temperature as higher than it really is, and the printer
generates the sequence of errors described above. Eventually, the
printer stops printing and displays the Ink Out error on its control panel.
