required, the SCC may not be required. This can reduce the cost of some of the Philips
Patient Care Network designs described earlier. The Medium Stepdown Unit with Telemetry
Monitoring, for example, could be more simply redesigned as shown in Figure 4-7.
In these applications, the telemetry mainframe output is connected directly to the
Information Center's SDN Interface Card input. For two telemetry mainframes, the units are
daisy chained as shown in Figure 4-7. With this connection, the priority wires of the
connecting cables are required. See Pin Connections in section 2.
These examples illustrate the issues that should be considered when designing a Philips
Patient Care Network. When designing the network, however, Philips recommends that
clinicians consult with a Philips Customer Representative to assure that their specific patient
monitoring requirements are met in the most cost effective and flexible way.
