b. Flex both sides of the retainer downward to release the microprocessor from the retainer
the microprocessor off the retainer
Notes:
• Your microprocessor might look different from the one illustrated.
• Touch only the edges of the microprocessor. Do not touch the gold contacts.

c. Carefully wipe the thermal grease off the old microprocessor. Place the old microprocessor on a
static-protective surface.
6. To install a new microprocessor, do the following:
a. Remove the microprocessor socket cover if it is installed.

b. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new microprocessor to any unpainted surface
on the outside of the computer. Then, remove the new microprocessor from the package.
