DMC490 Microgrid Controller Software Configuration Guide
Heat Constraint
Soft constraint means that the microgrid is allowed to violate its
Mode
heat power balance but at the cost of a penalty in the objective
function. Having the possibility of going above or below the
heat power balance (soft constraint) helps the feasibility of the
optimization.
Hard constraint means that the microgrid is not allowed to go
above or below the heat power balance margins specified in
the same panel.
Heat Power
Specify a penalty on a violation of heat power balance, for both
Balance Penalty
excess heat and heat storage. Use this setting in conjunction
with Heat Constraint Mode.

Economic Dispatch Settings
Economic dispatch setup specifies the length of time for prediction (Prediction Horizon) and the optimization
resolution (Dispatch Time), both of which determine the size of forecast parameters as well as decision
variables for the microgrid optimization problem. For each renewable, grid, load, and heat load forecasts, there
are 240 registers available in the DMC490 MGC and up to 48 hours are possible as the Prediction Horizon. The
Dispatch Time needs to be set in conjunction with the Prediction Horizon so that the number of forecast values
is not more than 240.

Description
Prediction
Specify the length of time for DMC490 MGC prediction. For
Horizon (hours)
example, a Prediction Horizon of 24 hours sets the MGC to
predict the optimal operation of the microgrid for the next 24
hours based on the 24-hour forecasts values for loads,
renewables, and grid prices. Select a value for Prediction
Horizon that ensures no more than 240 points are generated
based on the Dispatch Time interval. For example, for a six-
minute Dispatch Time, the maximum value that can be set
for Prediction Horizon is 24 hours (that is, 24 hours / 6
minutes = 240).
