chine has two exact motors with two sepa-
rate motor windings. One of the motors
provides wash speed in one winding and low
spin speed in the other winding. The other
motor provides distribution speed in one
winding and high spin speed in the other
winding. The motors are coupled to the
basket pulley via separate V-belts and pul-
leys. Since the motor speeds are the same
on the two motors, but the pulleys are differ-
ent in size on the two motors, the basket
speeds will be different. The basket speed
depends on which motor is powered, and
which motor winding in that motor is pow-
ered.
MFS50, MFS75/80, MFS90/100 and MFS125
models use an electromagnetic clutch to
couple the wash (See Figure 2-23) motor (via
pulleys and V-belts) to the extract motor in
both wash and distribution speed. When the
control board calls for the machine to run at
wash or distribution speed, it also powers
the clutch. When the machine is in a low or
high spin, the clutch is not powered and the
wash motor is decoupled from the extract
motor (preventing overspin on the wash
motor).

Because the motors are interconnected
mechanically via pulleys and V-belts, it is
necessary to loosen the fasteners that secure
both motors and adjust them together when
adjusting pulleys and V-belts.
Access to the motors can be obtained via the
back and side panels.
CLUTCH
On MFS models, the wash and extract (spin)
are connected together with a series of
pulleys and V-belts.
Some models are equipped with a DC sole-
noid clutch. The purpose of the clutch is to
decouple the wash motor from the extract
motor when the machine is in spin, prevent-
ing overspin on the wash motor.
The inside pulley -
the larger pulley with the
shorter belts -
of the extract motor is fitted
with the magnetic clutch assembly. The
clutch is engaged when the control board
turns on relay RL25 on the auxiliary output
board (NF2) supplying 208-240 volts AC
current to a bridge rectifier (GU3). The
bridge rectifier converts the AC to DC cur-
rent, powering the solenoid of the clutch.
With the clutch engaged, the belts from the
wash motor can turn the shaft of the extract
motor, which in turn turns the outside extract
motor pulley.
In an extract step, the clutch solenoid is not
powered and the extract motor shaft does
not turn the inside pulley, and likewise does
not turn the wash motor shaft.
V-BELTS
The belts are accessible by removing the rear
and the side panels. In the case of a new
machine and/or replacement belts have been
installed check for belt tightness.
