On the larger machines, the basket can be
disconnected from the shaft by removing the
large nut and washer in the center of the
basket, gaining access to the end of the
tapered basket shaft, which can be discon-
nected from the basket by means of a gear
puller.
Provision is made in the top of the shell to fix
the basket in place inside the shell, prevent-
ing it from dropping to the bottom of the
shell when the basket and shaft are discon-
nect from each other.
If the basket must be removed from the shell
of the larger machines, the cabinet must be
removed first and the shell front removed
from the shell assembly.
Removal of the cabinet from the larger
machines is similar to the process used in the
smaller machines.
BEARINGS AND SEALS
On the smaller models, the bearing assembly
is mounted to a backplate that is removable
from the shell assembly. Larger models
(MFS75 and larger models) use a bearing
assembly that is attached to the backplate of
the shell assembly, but the backplate is
welded to the shell assembly. That is to say,
the basket and bearing assembly may be
removed as one unit from the shell assembly
on the smaller machines, but not on the
larger machines.
Bearing removal of MFS75/125 models:
1. Disconnect and lock out all power to the
machine.
2. Remove back panels and top panels.
3. Remove V-belts and basket pulley.
4. Insert bolts through holes in top of shell
through holes in the basket assembly.
Secure the bolts inside the basket with
washers and nuts. This will support the
basket assembly, preventing it from drop-
ping too low in the shell assembly when
the basket is disconnected from the shaft.
5. Remove the large bolt and washer in the
center of the basket. This exposes the
tapered shaft below. Use a puller to press
against the shaft, freeing the basket from
the shaft.
6. At the back of the washer, remove the
bolts from the bearing assembly and
insert 4 pilot rods (at the 10 o'clock, 2
o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 6 o'clock hole
positions) into the holes in the backplate.
These rods are made by welding 200 mm
blot stock to 3/4" steel rods 48" long.
7. Insert and tighten bolts screwed into jack
bolt holes in the bearing assembly.
8. Slide the bearing and shaft assembly on
the rods (that were threaded into the
mounting bolt holes earlier) until the
bearing and shaft assembly is clear of
obstructions and can be removed.
9. Replace bearing and shaft assembly in
reverse order.
MFS50 models:
Removal of bearing assembly and seals:
1. Disconnect and lock out all power to the
machine.
2. Insert basket support tool into basket/
shell front opening to prevent basket
from dropping in front. See Figure 2-9.
