Follow Rest

The follow rest mounts to the saddle with two cap
screws (see Figure 51). It is used on long slen-
der parts to prevent workpiece deflection from
the pressure of the cutting tool during operation.
Adjust the finger adjustment knobs in the same
manner as those on the steady rest.
Tip: To reduce the effects of friction, lubricate the
finger tips with generous amounts of anti-sieze
lubricant during operation.

Locks
The carriage, cross slide, and compound rest
have locks that can be tightened to provide addi-
tional rigidity during operation, especially during
heavy- cuts.
See Figures 52–53 to identify the locks for each
device.
