Select a Mounting Location

When choosing a suitable mounting location, understand that it must be mounted indoors,
and signal strength is very important for proper operation. For most installations using the
built in antenna, mounting the unit as high as practical, and avoiding large metal compo-
nents provides adequate signal strength.
You will use the communications module to determine signal strength in order to find a
suitable mounting location.
NOTE: The SIM in this communications module is PRE-ACTIVATED, therefore no
activation is necessary. This enables the module to communicate with the cellular network
towers.
Once the module is installed and programmed, it must be Registered. Registering activates
the account with AlarmNet and enables the security system's control panel to send reports.

Determine the Signal Strength

1. Remove the cover by using a screwdriver to depress the two bottom tabs to enable
separating the cover.
2. Wire the transformer to TB1 terminals 1 and 2 on the module.
3. Plug in the transformer and wait about one minute for the module to initialize.
4. Position the module near a suitable mounting position and
observe the RSSI display. Look for a mounting position that
yields at least 3 bars lit solid. Four or five bars are better
(refer to Appendix D for signal strength and status
indicators).
5. Verify the signal strength remains steady for a few minutes, then mark that mounting
position. Unplug the transformer.
NOTE: If you cannot find a suitable location that has sufficient signal strength, you may
need an optional external antenna. Refer to the following guides for installing these
antennas.
