If your settings are:
15 m (50 ft) example

X10 & .5ft/Div

0 dB & 0 dB Loss

No Terminator

3. Using both the Zero Ref and Distance controls, position the second pulse with its peak on the
vertical center line of the TDR's screen. Use the Position control to center the horizontal base line.
4. Attach and detach a terminator from the loose end of the cable several times to verify that it is the
returned pulse and not the transmitted pulse in the center of the screen.
5. With the terminator off and using the Return Loss fine control (and 0 dB Set if necessary), adjust the
return pulse to three divisions high while keeping the base line on the horizontal center line. Your
screen should appear as shown in one of the following figures.
If your settings are:
2 m (6.5 ft) example

X10 & .5ft/Div

0 dB & 4 dB Loss
l
No Terminator
