8.1 INTRODUCTION
The relay will ask whether to close the selected breaker. Press [3/N] (NO) or [1/Y] (YES) followed by the [ENT] key. If NO is
selected, CANCELED appears on the display and no action occurs. If YES is selected, the checks are performed for the
CONTROL or MASTER privilege level and whether communication is in the process of performing an action. If the checks
fail then an error message is displayed and the action is not performed. If the checks pass then the action is performed and
either BREAKER x CLOSED or NOT CLOSED is displayed (depending on breaker status). If a key other than [3/N] or [1/
Y] is pressed, an error message is displayed and the breaker is not closed.
This command tests the protection functions of the relay. MASTER password level privilege is required and protection must
be enabled to perform this test. If protection has been turned off before entering this test, the relay will prompt to enable it.
If the [3/N] (NO) key is pressed, CANCELED is displayed and the test is canceled. If the [1/Y] (YES) key is pressed, the
user will be asked if the digital outputs should be disabled.
Whether protection was just turned on or was already on when this test was selected, the relay asks to disable the digital
outputs. If the answer is YES, all outputs except contact A1 are disabled and the status LED turns RED to indicate the dig-
ital outputs have been disabled. They may be enabled when End Test Mode is selected. If the answer is NO, all the digital
outputs will stay active during the test.
During relay test, all results from the tests will be output to contact A1 whether the digital outputs are
enabled or disabled.
NOTE
When the relay test items are displayed, the cursor will be positioned on the second line. Additional tests can be displayed
with the arrow keys or by entering the test number followed by the [ENT] key. The entered digits are echoed in the top right
corner of the display. If the [ENT] key is pressed and the entered number is valid, the test item corresponding to that num-
ber is displayed. A test item can also be selected by moving the cursor to the item and pressing the [ENT] key. At this point
a check is performed to make sure that communication is not in the process of performing an action. If the check fails then
an error message is displayed and the test is not selected. When the test is selected, the word ON will be displayed to the
right of the unit under test.
One test may be performed at a time. When a new test is selected, the previous test will be deselected. Other activities
using the [SET], [ACT] or [INF] keys may be performed during the relay test. When the relay test category is re-selected,
the test started earlier will be remembered only if the [END] key has not been used. If the digital outputs were enabled, the
relay will again ask if they should be disabled. If protection was disabled, the relay will prompt to enable it before proceed-
8
ing with the tests again.
The Disable Output? screen may appear first.
NOTE
To remove the relay from test mode, select 1. End Test Mode and press the [ENT] key. The cursor can be moved to the
item in two ways: by using the arrow keys or by entering [1] followed by [ENT] key. If End Test Mode is selected, the mes-
sage ON will be removed from the line of the item under test and the test terminated.
If outputs have been disabled before the relay test, a prompt appears after the selection of 1. End Test Mode option, as
