Setting the gain

You can use the gain to adjust the sensitivity necessary
for making the backwall echoes visible on the display
screen at the required height.
A T T E N T I O N
Structural noise etc. is likewise amplified and
can interfere with the measurement evalua-
tion.
You can choose between different amplification meth-
ods and adjust the maximum gain to your requirements.
You have a choice between the following amplification
methods:
AUTO
The automatic gain control is turned on. The instrument
selects one of the values set in the function MAX GAIN
for the options HIGH and LOW depending on the sound
velocity in the material.
5-34
The switch between the value for HIGH and the value
for LOW is at a material velocity of 6248.4 m/s = 246000
in/s to differentiate between steel and aluminum.
AGC OFF
The automatic gain control is switched off. The gain set-
ting is fixed and corresponds to the value selected in the
function MAX GAIN.
HIGH
The automatic gain control is switched on. The maxi-
mum gain is set to the preset (different for each probe)
maximum gain value (suitable for attenuative material
like stainless steel).
LOW
The automatic gain control is switched on. The maxi-
mum gain is set to the preset (different for each probe)
minimum gain value (suitable for less attenuative mate-
rial like aluminum).
