Equipment Log

Use the equipment log form located at the end of this manual to record the model and
serial number of your system, all installed options, and any other pertinent information
specific to your system. You will need this information when configuring your system.
Tools Recommended for Upgrading Your
System
Depending on the upgrade, you will need one or more of the following tools:
■ Phillips screwdriver (#1 bit and #2 bit)
■ Flat-head screwdriver
■ Small needle nose pliers
■ Pen or pencil
■ ESD workstation or antistatic wrist strap (recommended)

Preparing Your System for Upgrade

To prepare your system for installation or removal of system components perform the
following procedure:
1. Observe the safety and static precautions listed under "General Information"
and "Static Precautions" at the beginning of this chapter.
2. Shutdown the operating system (OS).
It is not necessary to shutdown to replace hot-swappable components, such as
the hard disk drives and the additional power supply units, if applicable.
3. Unlock and remove the front bezel. (
page 55.
4. Power off the server then press the POWER switch on the front panel of the
server. The POWER lamp goes out.
5. Unplug the server power cord(s) from the AC wall outlet(s).

refer to the UPS user's guide for proper power-off procedures.
6. Unplug the I/O cables connected to the rear panel of your server.
The server needs to be pulled out from the rack for installing/removing any internal
components other than the hard disk drives and power supply units (redundant power
supply model only).
