® Starting a record operation using the built-in microphone while the
backlight is on causes the backlight to turn off. This protects against
backlight noise mixing in with the sound you are recording.

e Leaving the backlight on for long periods can greatly reduce battery
life.
e The unit make a slight sound while the backlight is turned on. This is
normal, and does not indicate malfunction.
© Besides turning off when batteries are low, the backlight may also
turn off when there is a large momentary drain of battery power due
to CompactFlash card operation, data communication, or some other

reason. Under this condition, the remaining battery power on Power
Properties shows Low. Either of the following actions can be used to
correct this condition and re-enable backlight operation.
1. Turn off the CASSIOPEIA, connect the AC adapter, and turn power
back on again.
2. Turn off the CASSIOPEIA, stop the. operation that is draining
battery power, and turn power back on again.
If either of the above actions does not correct the condition, replace
the main batteries as soon as possible.
