Set up
- Adjustable monitor: the monitor can be adjusted to 6 different angles.
When the monitor is in the stowed position (flat), the system will be turned
off automatically. When tilted up again the power will be restored.
- Wrap around sun shade:
- Lift the outer shade straight out and pivot 180 degrees
- You can obtain extra sun shade by then placing the detachable viewing
hood on the sunshade.
- Powering the system: you can use either the 14.4V Makita battery (included in
standard equipment with a charger) or a 230V power supply.
Note: the battery cannot be charged via the toolbox, the included charger
must be used to re-charge. To remove the battery, depress the tabs on both sides of
the battery. If the toolbox in powered by the battery, the battery light will blink every
few seconds. When the voltage gets low, it will start to glow continuously, indicating
you only have a couple of minutes of run time.
Activating the transmitter: see monitor section.
Video flip: pushing this button flips the image 180° (upside down).
Full bright: this gives extra brightness to the image.
Auxiliary connector: For use with eventual accessories.

The VSM components are housed in a moulded protective case. The
handheld (keyed) microphone is standard on the VSM system.
Machine set up
The VSM is equipped with a retractable handle and wheels for easy
transport. Trifold doors provide multiple layers of protection for the unit
when closed and act as a deep sun shade when opened. Tilt stands are
provided for easy viewing and stability.
Retractable handle (VSM)
Pull the cross bar in the centre of the VSM back side and slowly pull
straight up until the handle snaps into place. To lower the handle, press
down the rings at the base of each side of the handle and slowly slide the
handle down to its lowest position.
Tilt stand (VSM)
Always position the rear stand first. Tip the unit forwards on its front feet
and bring the rear stand from its locked position and rotate to the rear of
the unit. To position the front tilt stand, tip the unit back on the rear stand
while holding the unit securely by the top handle and set unit in place.
The Mon VCR is equipped with the same tilt stand as the regular Monitor.
Monitor + Door Panels (VSM)
There are magnets to hold each side door in three different positions for
ultimate sun blockage.
To remove door panels:
1. Always start with the right side door (when facing the unit). On the top
hinge of the door there is a retractable pin. With the pin retracted, tip
the top of the door to the left and remove.
2. Now remove the top door by retracting the pin at the right side and
lowering the right side of the door.
3. Remove the left door last.
When you replace the door panels reverse the techniques described when
removing the door panels (start from left).
Sun shade/protective door (Monitor VCR)
To open the sun shade depress the orange release buttons on each side
of the unit while gently pressing in on the lower corners of the door with
your thumbs. The sunshade must be opened before you can open the
bottom door to expose the VCR.

Video recording
To record you can use the record button on the VCR or the large red
(Record / Record Stop) button.
NOTE: when you use the two different recording buttons (big red button/
button on VCR) then keep in mind that they don't work together. This
means if you push the one button, the other won't "know" what the other
one did. E.g. if you push record on the VCR, then to stop recording you
have to push the big red button twice.
You can record audio via the "hands free" microphone on the unit itself or
with the handheld microphone (standard on VSM).
Make sure the Volume/Audio Off knob is not in the audio off position. This
knob can be anywhere in the red band area. If you don't want to record
audio turn the volume/audio off knob counterclockwise until it snaps into
the OFF position.
When you use the "hands free" microphone a red light will be illuminated
when activated. Simply speak towards the unit (the light then will flash
brighter). When you use the handheld microphone the light will not be
illuminated until you activate it.
NOTE: the audio LED on the left side of the hands free microphone has
three settings:
1. OFF: Volume/audio knob in position OFF or handheld microphone
plugged in and not activated. No audio will be recorded.
2. DIM: Unit is ready to record, but not picking up strong audio signal.
3. BRIGHT RED: Unit is recording strong audio signal with hands free
microphone or activated handheld microphone.
