Ballast Assembly Replacement

Note: Vari-Lite offers a conversion kit for converting old-style ballasts to new-style ballasts. For
information on the kit (VL Part No: 28.9678.0100), see Technical Bulletin S3K-014, "Series 3000™
New-Style Ballast Conversion Procedure" available on the Vari-Lite Tech Center website.
Repair/Replacement Procedure (Old Style Ballast)
Step 1. Using console or internal menus, run lens as far to the rear as possible.
Step 2. Disconnect luminaire AC input cable from power source.
Step 3. At each top enclosure cover, remove two 6-32x1/4" PPB screws and remove cover.
Step 4. In each corner from top, remove four 6-32x3/8" PPZ screws.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage lens during next step.
Step 5. Carefully lay luminaire on its side, ensuring that lens does not come into contact with any
surface.
Step 6. At bottom of enclosure, remove four 1/4-20 x 1/2" socket screws and 1/4" split lock washers
and remove ventilation cover.
Step 7. Remove both handles by removing two 10-32x5/8" PPB screws at each.
Step 8. At enclosure bottom, remove four 6-32x1/4" PPB screws and both side covers.
Step 9. At enclosure bottom, remove two 6-32x3/8" PPB screws, APS side bracket and front cover
from ballast side.
Step 10. At ballast, disconnect wiring:
Step 11. Pull wires through ferrite core.
Step 12. At bottom of enclosure, remove three 8-32x3/8" PFZ screws and two 8/32x3/8" PPZ screws
which secure ballast module to enclosure.
Step 13. Remove ballast module.
Step 14. Install replacement assembly by performing Steps 2-13 in reverse order.
