Setting Up Your Modem Manually

If you elect not to use the Smart Wizard, you can set up the modem manually. However, you need
to prepare the following before you can set up your modem:
Active Internet service provided by an ADSL account.
The Internet Service Provider (ISP) configuration information for your ADSL account.
ISP login name and password
ISP Domain Name Server (DNS) addresses
Fixed or static IP address
Host and domain names
Depending on how your ISP set up your Internet account, you need to know one or more of
these settings:
Virtual path identifier (VPI) and Virtual channel identifier (VCI) parameters
Multiplexing method
Host and domain names
ASDL microfilters as explained in the Broadband ADSL2+ Modem Setup Manual.
Your computer must be set up to use DHCP to get its TCP/IP configuration from a router. This
is usually the case. For help with DHCP, see the documentation that came with your computer,
or see the link to the online document in
Your ISP should have provided you with all the information needed to connect to the Internet. If
you cannot locate this information, you can ask your ISP to provide it.
You can use the Setup Wizard to auto-detect your Internet connection, or you can bypass the
wizard and enter settings in the Quick Setup screens.
Setup Wizard. This wizard searches your Internet connection for servers and protocols to
determine your Internet Service Provider (ISP) configuration. See the following section,
