The English/Metric Pulse Output Electronics converts the basic wavelength value pulses
from the laser head and receivers to compensated English or Metric value up/down or
phase-quadrature (A-Quad-B) pulses. This conversion is done in real time to provide elec-
trical interchangeability of the Laser Transducer with a variety of conventional incremental
scales and encoders.
The 10763A English/Metric Pulse Output cards are the system controllers for the coupler back-
plane. They issue instructions to the 10760A Counters, the 10761A Multiplier, and the 10755A
Compensation Interface. These cards convert the incoming reference and measurement signals
into compensated displacement information. The 10763A English/Metric Pulse Output cards
use this data to generate up/down or A-Quad-B signals representing total change in position.
When there is more than one axis, the 10761A Multiplier is shared by each of the pulse output
cards. Control of the backplane is transferred from one pulse output card to the next in a
regular sequence that is set during initial configuration.
The following control functions are available on the control connector of the output cable from
the English/Metric Pulse Output card:
The 10755A Compensation Interface is used with either the 10756A Manual Compensator or the
5510A Opt 010 Automatic Compensator. In typical installations, the choice of manual or automatic
compensation is determined by the stability of the ambient environment. Refer to the individual
unit theory of operation for additional information.
