Brief description
1.6 Extended stop and retract (ESR)
1.6
Extended stop and retract (ESR)
1.6.1
Function
The "Extended stop and retract" function (ESR) provides a means to react flexibly to specific
error sources while preventing damage to the workpiece:
• Extended stop/retract
• Retract
• Generator operation
NC-controlled functions
With NC-controlled stop and retract, the coupling remains active for a configurable time,
unlike stop and retract under independent drive control.
Straight line as retraction path
A straight line can be programmed as retraction path, as an alternative to purely axial
retraction.
1.6.2
Preconditions
Software requirements
Utilization of this function requires the option "Extended stop and retract (ESR)".
Hardware requirements
This option is only available for SINUMERIK 840D powerline.
16
If possible, all axes involved in the electronic coupling are brought to a normal standstill.
The tool currently in use is retracted from the workpiece as quickly as possible.
In the event of a power failure, the electrical energy needed for retraction is provided by
additional backup capacitors in the intermediate circuit or by regenerative braking, using
a specially provided drive, operating in generator mode.
Special functions: Axis Couplings and ESR (M3)
