Checking the ignition coil

1. Remove the spark plug cap from the
spark plug.
2. Disconnect the ignition coil connectors.
3. Measure the ignition coil resistance.
Replace the ignition coil if out of specifi-
cation.
Ignition coil resistance:
å Primary coil:
Black/white (B/W) – Black (B)
0.18–0.24 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
∫ Secondary coil:
Black/white (B/W) – Spark plug wire
3.26–4.88 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)

Checking the CDI unit

1. Remove the CDI unit cover.
2. Connect the digital circuit tester with
peak voltage adaptor B to the ignition coil
lead and the ground.
3. Measure the CDI unit output peak volt-
age. If less than specification, measure
the charge coil output peak voltage.
Replace the CDI unit if the output peak
voltage of the charge coil is more than
specification.

Black/white (B/W) – Ground (B)

NOTE:
Remove the all spark plug caps to prevent the
engine ignite, when measure the CDI unit
peak voltage at engine cranking.
