Servicing a Kohler
This section is only for machines with Kohler engines.
If your engine looks like the one shown in
you have a Kohler engine.
Important:
Refer to your engine owner's manual
for additional maintenance procedures.

Servicing the Air Cleaner
Service Interval: Every 150 hours—For Kohler
engines—inspect the primary filter.
Every 300 hours/Yearly (whichever comes
first)—For Kohler engines—replace the
primary air filter (more often in dusty or sandy
conditions).
Every 300 hours—For Kohler engines—check
the inner air filter.
Every 600 hours—For Kohler engines—replace
the inner air filter.
Note:
Check the filters more frequently if the
operating conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Removing the Filters
1.
Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the blade-control switch (PTO), and engage the
parking brake.
2.
Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3.
Release the latches on the air cleaner and pull
the air-cleaner cover off the air-cleaner body
(Figure
56).

Clean the inside of the air-cleaner cover with
compressed air.
5.
Gently slide the primary filter out of the
air-cleaner body
(Figure
Note:
Avoid knocking the filter into the side of
the body.
6.
Remove the safety filter only to replace it.
Important:
Do not attempt to clean the
safety filter. If the safety filter is dirty, then
the primary filter is damaged. Replace both
filters.
7.
Inspect the primary filter for damage by looking
into the filter while shining a bright light on the
outside of the filter.
Note:
Holes in the filter appear as bright spots.
If the filter is damaged, discard it.

Inspect the safety filter. If it is dirty, replace both
the safety and primary filters.
Important:
Do not attempt to clean the
safety filter. If the safety filter is dirty, then
the primary filter is damaged.
2.
Inspect the primary filter for damage by looking
into the filter while shining a bright light on the
outside of the filter. If the primary filter is dirty,
bent, or damaged, replace it.
Note:
Holes in the filter appear as bright spots.
Do not clean the primary filter.
