Troubleshooting

The charts that follow contain information to assist in
troubleshooting. There may possibly be more than one
cause for a machine malfunction.

General Hydraulic System Problems

Problem
Hydraulic oil leaks from system.
Hydraulic fluid foams.
Hydraulic system operates hot.
Greensmaster 3150
Refer to the Testing section of this Chapter for precau-
tions and specific test procedures.
Possible Cause
Fitting(s), hose(s) or tube(s) are loose or damaged.
O--ring(s) or seal(s) are missing or damaged.
Hydraulic reservoir oil level is low.
Hydraulic system has wrong type of oil.
The pump suction line has an air leak.
Hydraulic reservoir oil level is low.
Suction screen in reservoir is loose or clogged.
Oil is contaminated or too light.
Brakes are applied or are incorrectly adjusted.
Piston pump by--pass valve is open or defective.
Working load of machine (e.g. high ambient temperatures, use of
verticutter) may require use of oil cooler.
Oil cooler (if installed) is damaged or plugged. Cooler by--pass re-
lief is stuck open or air flow is obstructed.
Charge pressure is low (see Charge Pressure Relief Valve Pres-
sure Test in the Testing section of this chapter).
Wheel motor(s) or cutting reel motor(s) are worn or damaged (see
Wheel Motor Efficiency and Reel Motor Case Drain Flow Tests in
the Testing section of this chapter).
Piston (traction) pump is worn or damaged (see Piston (Traction)
Pump Flow Test in the Testing section of this chapter).
