Step 1.
Inside the box you will find two separate boxes. The larger of the two contains
the grinder and the PortaHolder (if applicable). The other contains the hopper,
lid, grounds bin, burr removal tool, and calibration tool.
Step 2.
Remove the grinder from the box by lifting the plastic bag and pulling straight
up.
IMPORTANT! For grinders with scales, the weight platform (scale) is fragile,
and can be damaged by excess weight or force. Be gentle. Do NOT press down
on it.
Step 3.
With the hopper lid in place, mount the hopper on the grinder by lining up the
two small tabs at the base of the hopper with the two slots inside the collar.
Turn the hopper clockwise until it locks into position (expect to apply force).
Step 4.
Plug in the grinder. Add beans, insert the grounds bin. Adjust the Macro and
Micro setting for the preferred brewing method. Macro grind adjustments
should be made while the unit is running. See Table below for suggested
settings.

Note that these are just starting points; you will need to dial in the grind to your
preference. For additional information on grind settings and brewing methods go to the
support tab at www.baratza.com. (* May require recalibration).
Step 5.
To operate the grinder, do the following:
◊ For the Vario, choose a preset number and press Start.
◊ For the Vario-W, press the Tare button, choose a preset number and press
Start.
◊ For the Forté press Weight, then press Tare, choose a preset number, and
press Start or, when grinding by time, choose a preset number and press
Start.
Step 6.
To set a programmable Time/Weight button (1,2,3), use up/down arrows to
adjust to preferred time/weight, then press and hold desired button until the
display flashes. You have now stored the new time/weight.
