TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE LACKS POWER

Possible Cause
Air filter clogged.
Bad fuel, tiller stored without
treating or draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad gasoline.
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves struck, etc.

POOR TILLING QUALITY

Possible Cause
Engine speed is too slow for soil
conditions.
Tiller is moving too fast for soil
conditions.
Drag bar adjustment set too high. Lower drag bar adjustment
Tines dull, worn, or damaged.
Wrong tines installed.
Tines installed incorrectly.
Correction
Clean or replace air filter (P. 36).
Drain fuel tank and carburetor
(p. 48).
Refuel with fresh gasoline (p. 29).
Replace or repair faulty
components as necessary.
Take tiller to your servicing dealer,
or refer to the shop manual.
Correction
Move the throttle to the FAST
position (p. 12).
Reduce throttle speed (p. 12).
(p. 20).
Replace tines if necessary.
Install correct tines.
Install tines correctly.
