SECTION II.
OPERATOR'S CONTROL PANEL
Two push buttons, DISPLAY and ENTER, are associated with the CONTENTS push buttons.
CONTENTS DISPLAY
This button is effective only when the systeITl is in the STOP ITlode.
When the CONTENTS
DISPLAY button is depressed, the CONTENTS indicators display the character in the ITlain
ITleITlory location specified by the ITleITlory address register {i. e., the ADDRESS indicators}
with any accoITlpanying punctuation bits.
If
a parity failure occurs or if the addressed location does not exist, the PARITY indicator
is illuITlinated.
The PARITY indicator ITlay be reset prior to perforITling further ITlanual opera-
tions, but all ITlanual operations except BOOTSTRAP, INSTRUCT, and RUN ITlay be perforITled
while the PARITY indicator is illuITlinated.
{See page 2-11 for a cOITlplete description of the
PARITY indicator. }
CONTENTS ENTER
This button is effective only when the systeITl is in the STOP ITlode.
When the CONTENTS
ENTER button is depressed, the character and the punctuation bits displayed in the CONTENTS
indicators are written with correct parity into the ITlain ITleITlory location whose address is
displayed in the ADDRESS indicators.
The previous contents of the ITlain ITleITlory location are
destroyed, and if that location contained incorrect parity before, it contains correct parity after
the ENTER button is depressed.
However, depressing the CONTENTS ENTER button does not
illuITlinate or turn off the PARITY indicator.
CONTROL Push-Button Indicators
These four push-button indicators display the octal address of a control ITleITlory register
as a binary pattern of lights.
The display of the push buttons changes only when they are de-
pressed.
Their setting can be altered at any tiITle, and each indicator is either illuITlinated or
turned off each tiITle it is depressed.
It should be noted that the CONTROL buttons have no role while the prograITl is running,
and their display is not affected by a running prograITl.
They are used only by the control panel
itself in conjunction with the following associated push buttons.
