Step 1
Back up the current running configuration file.
Step 2
(Optional) Configure VRF.
Example:
Router(config)# vrf def smart-vrf
Router(config-vrf)# address-family ipv4
Router(config-vrf-af)# exit-address-family
Router(config-vrf)# address-family ipv6
Router(config-vrf-af)# exit-address-family
Step 3
Set up the network interface.
Example:
Router(config)# interface TenGigabitEthernet4/1/1
Router(config)# vrf forward smart-vrf
Router(config-if)# ip address 172.22.11.25 255.255.255.128
Router(config-if)# no ip proxy-arp
Router(config-if)# no shut
If IPv6 is enabled, you must configure the IPv6 address.

Verify the data path.
Example:
!Verify the connectivity to TenGigabitEthernet4/1/1 interface
Router# ping vrf smart-vrf 172.22.11.25
!Verify the connectivity to TenGigabitEthernet4//1/1 gateway
Router# ping vrf smart-vrf 172.22.11.1
!Verify the connectivity to tools.cisco.com
Router# ping vrf smart-vrf 72.163.4.38
Step 5
(Optional) Configure Call Home.
Example:
Router(config)# call-home
!Configure the TenGigabitEthernet 4/1/1
Router(cfg-call-home)# source-ip-address 172.22.11.25
Step 6
Configure the mail server and verify the configuration.
