U s e a large enough container, such as a
laundry tub or trash container, to hold one or
both c ells.
N O T E : S h arp corners on the cells can scratch
the surface of a bathtub.
Dissolve abo ut 3 /4 cup of auto m atic d ish w ash er
d eterg en t p er cell in enough hot w a te r to cover
the cells. If the d ete rg e n t does not dissolve
readily, or form s a s cum on the w ater, try
a n o th e r brand, or use s often ed w ater.
A fte r the d ete rg e n t has com pletely dissolved,
p lace the cells in the c o n tain er and let s o a k for
15 to 2 0 m inutes. A g itate th e m up and dow n a
fe w tim es, and rem ove.
N ext, w ash the prefilters the s a m e w ay. Em pty
and rinse the w ash container.
R in s e th e cells and prefilters with a hard spray
of v e ry hot w ater; rinse the tub clean , then fill
the tub with clean hot w a te r and s o a k for 5 to 15
m inutes. R inse until the w a te r draining fro m the
cells and prefilters no longer fee ls slippery.
S o a k cells and prefilters in a final c le a r w a te r
rinse for 10 m inutes.
W ip e the ionizer w ires and contact board on the
end of the cell using you r thu m b and forefin ger
with a sm all, d am p cloth.
U s e the hand s p ra y er at a c o in -o p e ra te d do-it-
yourself car w ash to w ash the cells. Hold the
n o zzle at least tw o fe e t a w a y fro m th e unit to
avoid d a m a g e (such as broken ionizer w ires or
bent collector p lates) fro m the high pressure
s tre a m of w ater. Follow the s a m e s e q u e n c e of
w ash and rinse as re c o m m e n d ed for cars.
H o w ev e r, do not w a x the cells. Be sure to rinse
until the w a te r draining from the cells no longer
feels slippery.
