0B-6 MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

1. Generator belt
2. Crankshaft pulley
3. Generator pulley
4. Power steering pump pulley
5. Water pump pulley
6. A/C compressor pulley
Water Pump Belt Replacement
Replace belt with new one. Refer to SECTION 6B for replacement
procedure of pump belt.
NOTE:
When replacing belt with a new one, adjust belt tension to
5 – 7 mm (0.20 – 0.27 in.).
3. Crankshaft pulley
1.8L Engine
Generator Belt Inspection
1) Remove engine under cover of right side from vehicle body.
2) Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness.
Tensioner Inspection
1) Remove air cleaner outlet hose.
2) Check belt for tension as follows.
Type B
Generator Belt Replacement
Replace belt with new one. Refer to SECTION 6B for replacement pro-
cedure of generator belt.
7. Idler pulley
8. Tension pulley
9. Tensioner
10. Tension free point
11. Tension indicator
ITEM 1-2 (except 1.8L Engine model)
Camshaft Timing Belt Replacement
Replace belt with new one. Refer to SECTION 6A or 6A1 for re-
placement procedure.
Replace, if necessary.
If any of above conditions are found replace generator belt.
[Type A]
Check to make sure that tension indicator points within À of the
left figure by using mirror.
If the indicator comes to  out of À passing Á, replace genera-
tor belt.
[Type B]
Tension indicator "B" should be the right of indicator "A" as
shown in figure. If indicator "B" is found to the left of indicator "A",
replace generator belt.
CAUTION:
D Do not bend or twist timing belt.
D Do not allow timing belt to come into contact with oil,
water, etc.
