FBAS
Composite Colour Video Signal. Transmission standard, where colour and brightness
information are combined in an analogue signal and transmitted via a cable.
Live mode
Also referred to as Live TV or Live Radio. In live mode you see or hear the programme
that is currently being received from the set-top box. In contrast to this, the set-top box
is not in live mode, for example, if it is currently playing a stored recording or if a
timeshift is active or if the menu is open.
MAC address
Media Access Control. The MAC address is used for the unique identification of a device
worldwide. It comprises six segments (hexadecimal numbers), e.g. 00:01:E3:FA:B1:8E.
The MAC address is assigned by the manufacturer and cannot be changed.
OSD
On Screen Display. Refers to the screen menu in which you can change the settings for
a device and call up additional information.
PID
Packet Identifier. Key data for the exact assignment of individual signal packages to a
channel. A channel is uniquely identified by combining a number of PIDs, for example
for audio, video PID and PCR signals (Programme Clock Reference). The PIDs are gener-
ally assigned to the channels by the operator of the transmitting equipment (e.g. satel-
lite or regional DVB provider). Appropriate PID summary lists are published by the oper-
ators, for example, on the Internet.
PVR
Personal Video Recorder. Video recorder function of the set-top box, whereby the pro-
grammes received are recorded on a hard disk.
RGB
Red Green Blue. Colour model for transmission of video signals where all displayable
colours are calculated as a percentage of the basic colours red, green and blue. Black
has no percentage of the basic colours while white results from a share of 100 percent
in each case.
RS232
Serial interface for the connection to a PC. The RS232 interface is generally used for
service purposes in the case of a set-top box, for example for updating the device soft-
ware from the PC.
S/P DIF
Sony/Philips Digital Interface (also SPDIF). Interface for the digital transmission of audio
signals, such as Dolby Digital. Depending on the type of connection, the transmission
can be electrical (coaxial cable, 75 Ohm) or optical (Toslink cable).
