Spark Plug(s)
Every 100hoursof operation,removethespark plugs.
Checkthereconditionand resetthe gap,or replacewith
newplugs.
• Beforeremovingthespark plug,cleanthe area
aroundthe baseof the plug toe keepdirt and debris
out of theengine.
• Removetheplug and check its condition.Replace
the plug if wornor reuseis questionable.
NOTE: Donot cleanthe sparkplug in a machineusing
abrasivegrit. Somegrit could remainin the spark
plug and enterthe enginecausingextensivewearand
damage.
• Checkthegap usinga wire feelergauge.Adjustthe
gap to .030in. (0.76ram) by carefullybendingthe
groundelectrode.See Figure20.

• Reinstallthe sparkplug into thecylinderhead.
Torquethe sparkplug to 18-22ft. Ibs. (24.4-
29.8N.m).
Engine Cooling
Toensurepropercooling, makesurethe grass screen,
coolingfins, and otherexternalsurfacesof theengine
are kept cleanat all times.
Every 100hoursof operation(moreoften under
extremelydusty,dirty conditions),removethe blower
housingand othercoolingshrouds.Cleanthe cooling
fins and externalsurfacesas necessary.Makesurethe
coolingshroudsare properlyreinstalled.
Carburetor
In compliancewith governmentemissionstandards,the
carburetoris calibratedto deliverthecorrectfuel-to-air
mixtureto the engine underall operatingconditions.
Thehigh speedmixtureis set at the factoryand cannot
be adjusted.
If enginetroublesare experienced that appearto be fuel
systemrelated,checkthe followingareas:
• Makesurethe fuel tank is filledwith clean, fresh
gasoline.Makesurethefuel tank vent is not blocked.
• Makesurethe in-line fuelfilter is cleanand unob-
structed.Replacethefilter if necessary.
• Makesurethe air cleanerelementis cleanand all air
cleanerelementcomponents are fastenedsecurely.
If after checkingtheaboveitemsthe engineis hard to
start, runs roughly,stalls,or lackspower,contactyour
CubCadetdealer to havethecarburetorand fuel pump
inspected.
Fuel Line
Changethe fuel linefilter after every 100 hoursof opera-
tion. Thefuel filter is locatedon the left sideof the engine
in the fuel line. Notethe orientationof thefilter to install
the newfilter correctly.
• Placea containerbelowthe filterto catchany spilled
gasolineand carefullyclampthe fuel lines.
• Loosenthe hoseclampsto removeand replacethe
filter.
Lubrication
WARNING:Beforelubricating, r epairing,
or inspecting, alwaysdisengagePTO,set
parkingbrake,stopengineand remove
key to preventunintended starting.
Steering
Thesteeringarms,pivot shafts,and axles must be lubri-
catedafter every25 hour of operation.Lubricateusinga
pressuregreasegun and CubCadet251HEP grease,or
an equivalentNo.2 multipurposelithiumgrease.
• Applygreasethroughthe lubefitting on the RH and
LH steeringarms whichare locatedat rearwardend of
the two steeringdrag links.See Figure21.

Locatethe lube fittingsfor the pivot shaftand axleon
the frontof one end of the axlepivot bar.Applygrease
throughthe two lube fittings,then repeatto lubricate
the shaftand axle at the otherend of the pivotbar.

Front Wheel
Bearings
Lubricatethe front wheelbearingswith CubCadet251H
EP greaseafter every 25 hoursof operation.The lube
fittingsare locatedin the rim hub insideeachfront wheel.
