Easier Setting of IP Address for Windows
A new additional method for setting the server's IP address is
easier than using ARP or setting up DHCP or BOOTP. You need
no longer configure the IP address before using a web browser to
access the server's web page. To use the new method, you must be
using a Microsoft or IBM network running SMB over NBT
(NetBIOS/TCP/IP), and you must be using Class B or C addresses
on the network.
To determine IP address class:
Find the first byte of the IP addresses on your network in the
ranges in the following table. If the corresponding class is B
or C, you may use the method described in this section.
Range
1–127
128–191
192–223
1. Determine the IP address to be assigned to the server, and
determine its class (as shown in the preceding table).
2. On a label on the server, find the server's LAN hardware (MAC)
address, for example, 0060B0B6FC1B. Note only the last 6 digits.
3. Start a standard web browser (such as Netscape Navigator or
Microsoft Internet Explorer) on a client on the same network as
the server.
4. (Within 30 minutes after starting or restarting the server) enter
the following in the Location/Address field in the browser:
Class B: <hhhhhh>_<3>_<4>
where:
<hhhhhh>
<3>
<4>
Example:
b6fc1b_253_80
Class C: <hhhhhh>_<4>
where:
<hhhhhh>
<4>
Example:
b6fc1b_80
The initial bytes not specified are taken from the client you use.
When the address is successfully set, the main web page for the
server is displayed in the browser.
Class

Example:
191.16.253.80
