Histogram of maximum battery temperature
The distribution of maximum battery temperature is dis-
played in the histogram. If the battery is frequently used
without a rise in its temperature, the columns near the
"L" side will increase. If the battery is frequently used
with a rise in its temperature, for example, the overheat
protection is activated so often, the columns near the
"H" side will increase.

TROUBLESHOOTING

State of abnormality
An error message E01, E03, or E04
appears on the screen.
An error message E02 appears on
the screen.
Battery diagnosis fails to commence
even when the battery cartridge
/ portable power pack has been
installed.
Nothing appears on the screen even
when the power button is held down.

MAINTENANCE

CAUTION:
Always be sure that the appli-
ance is switched off and the battery cartridge is
removed before attempting to perform inspection
or maintenance.
NOTICE:
Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner,
alcohol or the like. Discoloration, deformation or
cracks may result.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY,
repairs, any other maintenance or adjustment should
be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service
Centers, always using Makita replacement parts.
Probable cause (malfunction)
There is a malfunction in the circuitry
of the Portable Battery Checker or the
adapter.
Continued use has caused the circuitry
of the Portable Battery Checker to
reach a high temperature.
A problem with the terminal
connections.
A problem with the dry cells in the
Portable Battery Checker.

Histogram of maximum current discharge
The maximum current discharge is displayed in the
histogram. If the battery is frequently used for a low-
load operation, such as lighting a flashlight, the columns
near the "L" side will increase. If the battery is frequently
used for a high-load operation, such as operating a
grinder, the columns near the "H" side will increase.

The icons to indicate the type of battery's malfunction-
ing is displayed. The icon that corresponds to the mal-
function is filled in.
1) Malfunction
This icon is displayed when the battery is malfunction-
ing. If the malfunction area cannot be pinpointed, only
this icon is displayed.
2) Malfunction of a battery cell
3) Malfunction of circuit inside the battery
Remedy
Please contact one of our authorized service
centers.
Wait a while for the circuitry to cool down, and then
resume use.
- Remove the battery cartridge / portable power
pack, clean off any dirt or other foreign matter on
the terminals, and re-install the battery cartridge /
portable power pack properly.
- Check that the battery is an applicable battery.
- Check whether the dry cells have been installed
correctly.
- Replace the dry cells with new ones.
