6 Troubleshooting

If an increased back-pressure is observed, locate the blockage point in the system by
systematically isolating the different components in the line of flow. If the back-pressure
increase is due to a blockage in the column, the following procedures should be
employed.
Problem
High back pressure
Column leakage

Check / possible causes
Column filters blocked, if so, clean or replace.
Refer to Section 5.2 Cleaning‚ on page 26.
Equipment before or after the column generates back
pressure.
Connected tubing with too small diameter or bent.
Pressure indicator faulty.
Solvents used not compatible with O-rings and/or
gaskets. Refer to Section 7.2 Chemical resistance‚ on
page 36.
Connections to and from the pump not correct (loose or
misplaced).
Column not connected correctly.
O-rings not positioned correctly.
