Cooling

The water cooling system dissipates the power loss generated in the stator segments.
● Connect the stator segment cooling ducts in parallel.
● Connect the interconnected cooling ducts to the cooling circuit of a cooling system.
You can find the characteristic curves for the pressure drop of the cooling medium between
the intake and return circuit of the cooling system as a function of the volume flow rate in
Chapter "Technical data and characteristics".
Note
Technical data and characteristics
The data sheets and characteristics in Chapter "Technical data and characteristics" refer
only to the reference motor described in this documentation. You can obtain data sheets for
other segment motors from your local Siemens office.
In certain operating states, you must expect an additional temperature rise of the rotor
segment as a result of iron losses, e.g. when operating at high speeds or in S1 mode.
The rated motor torques specified in the data sheets apply under the following conditions:
● Operation with water cooling with a water intake temperature of 35 °C.
● Maximum temperature of the rotor mounting surface 60 °C.
To comply with these conditions, it may be necessary that you take additional measures to
cool the rotor segments.
NOTICE
Demagnetization of the rotor segment magnets
If the heat dissipated through the rotor segment mounting surfaces is not adequate, then
the rotor segment can overheat, which could demagnetize the magnets.
• Ensure that the rotor segment does not exceed the maximum temperature of 120 °C.
