6F2-6 IGNITION SYSTEM (J18 ENGINE)

IGNITION SPARK TEST
REMOVAL
1) Disconnect injector coupler.
WARNING:
Without disconnection of injector coupler, combus-
tible gas may come out from spark plug holes during
this test and may get ignited in engine room.
2) Disconnect ignition coil coupler(s).
3) Remove ignition coil bolt(s), and then pull out ignition coil(s).
4) Remove spark plug(s).
INSPECTION
1) Connect ignition coil coupler to ignition coil and connect spark
plug to ignition coil.
2) Ground them as shown in left figure.
3) Crank engine and check if each spark plug sparks.
If no spark is emitted, inspect spark plugs, ignition coils, CMP
sensor, igniter, etc.
INSTALLATION
1) Install spark plug(s) and tighten them to specified torque.
Tightening Torque
(a): 25 N
2) Install ignition coil(s) securely.
3) Tighten ignition coil bolt(s), and then connect ignition coil cou-
pler(s).
Tightening Torque
(b): 3 N
4) Install ignition coil cover.
5) Connect injector coupler.
