Upgrading LinkStation's Firmware to Support PCast
Power cycle your LinkStation by holding the power button down
until the POWER lamp begins to blink. Once the POWER lamp
stops blinking the device is off. Please wait 5 seconds and then
press the power button. The POWER lamp will begin to blink
again signifying the startup process. Once the POWER lamp
becomes solid, LinkStation has successfully restarted.
Insert the Buffalo LinkTheater CD into a PC's CD-ROM or DVD-
ROM drive. The CD will auto-launch and bring up an on-screen
menu. If the CD does not auto launch, press on the 'Start Menu',
press the 'Run . . .' option, and type X:\setup.exe (where X is the
drive letter of your CD-ROM device).
Once the CD-ROM has launched, an on-screen menu will be visible. Please select the, 'Upgrade LinkStation
Firmware' option and press 'OK'.
The LinkTheater update menu will appear. There are 2 different
updaters available for LinkStation. Due to multiple LinkStation
models present in the market, you will need to select the proper
updater to update your LinkStation. Fortunately, only the correct
updater will work so you can attempt either one and if it doesn't
work, then you know the other updater is the proper one.
Update #1 – Updater for version 1.xx LinkStations. 1.xx
LinkStations started shipping in late 2003 all the way up
to early 2005.
Update #2 – Updater for version 2.xx LinkStations. 2.xx
LinkStations started shipping around early 2005.
Please select the updater that you think most closely describes your LinkStation.
If you are unsure, start with Update #1.
Once you press an update button, the updater program will automatically launch. It will begin by searching
for available LinkStations on your network. Update #1 will only find 1.xx version LinkStations while Update
#2 will only find 2.xx version LinkStations. Thus, if the first updater you try does not find your LinkStation,
then simply exit the updater and use the other updater.
Once the proper updater has been selected, the updater will find
all of the available LinkStations on your network. If more than
one LinkStation resides on your network, then please select the
appropriate LinkStation from the pull down menu. Once the
proper LinkStation has been selected, press the 'Renew Firmware'
button.
A status screen will appear showing the existing version of
LinkStation and the new version this firmware file supports. A
password field is also present, please enter the LinkStation's
administrator password into that field if you set one. If no
password was set, then leave the password field blank. Press the
'OK' button when you are finished.
