chapters. Depending on the disc, no chapters may
be recorded.

These signals are included in sonle software or TV
programs and resu'ict recording on this recorder.
Dolhy Digital(page98)
Digital audio conlpression technology developed
by Dolby Laboratories. This technology conl\mns
to nlulti-channel surwund sound. The rear channel
is stere() and there is a discrete subwoofi:r channel
in this format. Dolby Digital pwvides the same
discrete channels of high quality digital audio
t_)und in "Dolby Digital" theater surround sound
systems. Good channel separation is realized
because all of the channel data is recorded
discretely, and little deterioration occurs because
all channel data processing is digital.

to multi-channel surround sound. Tile rear channel
is stere() and there is a discrete subwoofi:r channel
in this fnmlat. DTS provides the same discrete
channels of high quality digital audio.

A DVD+RW (read "plus RW") is a recordable and
rewritable disc. DVD+RWs use a recording

A DVD-RW is a recordahle mMrewritahle disc
that is the same size as a DVD VIDEO. Tile DVD-
RW has two different modes: VR mode and Vide<)
mode. DVDs created in Vide() mode have the
same format as a DVD VIDEO, while discs
created in VR (Video Recording) mode allow the
contents to be progrmmned or edited.
DVD+R(page 30)
A DVD+R (read "plus R") is a recordahle disc that
is the same size as a DVD VIDEO. Contents call
be recorded only once to a DVD+R, and will have
the same lormat as a DVD VIDEO.
DVD-R (page30)
A DVD-R is a recordable disc that is tile same size
as a DVD VIDEO. Contents can be recorded only
once to a [)VD-R. The DVD-R has two diflereut
modes: VR nlode and Vide<)mode. DVDs created
ill Vide<)mode have the same %treat as a DVD
VIDEO, while discs created in VR (Vide(>
Recording) mode allow the contents to be
programnled or edited.
DVD VIDEO (page 33)
A disc that contains up to eight hours of mo,Ang
pictures on a disc tile same diameter as a CD.
Tile data capacity of a singleqayer and single-
sided DVD is 4.7 GB (Giga Byte), which is 7
times that of a CD. Tile data capacity of a double-
layer and single-sided DVD is 8.5 GB, a single-
layer and double-sided DVD is 9.4 GB, and
doubleqayer and double-sided DVD is 17 GB.
The picture data uses the MPEG 2 l\)mlat, which
is a worldwide standard of digital compression
technology. The picture data is compressed to
about 1/40 (a,_erage) of its original size. The DVD
also uses a variable rate coding technology that
changes the data to be allocated according to the
stares of the picture. Audio intk)rmation is
recorded in a multi=channel l\mnat, such as Dolby
Digital, allowing you to enjoy a more real audio
presence.
Furthermore, various advanced functions such as
the multi-angle, multilingual, and Parental
Control functions are provided on the DVD.
