    This chapter describes how to configure the wireless features of your DG834N RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router. Considerations for a Wireless Network In planning your wireless network, you should consider the level of security required. You should also select the physical placement of your wireless modem router in order to maximize the network speed.

WEP connections can take slightly longer to establish. Also, WEP encryption can consume more battery power on a notebook computer. The same Name (SSID) must be assigned to all wireless devices in your network. The default SSID is NETGEAR, but NETGEAR strongly recommends that you change your network Name to a different value.

This field lets you turn off or turn on the wireless access point built in to the wireless modem router. The wireless icon on the front of the wireless modem router will display the current status of the Wireless Access Point to let you know if it is disabled or enabled.

How to Configure WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK Security A high performance client like the NETGEAR WN511B must connect using WPA2-PSK in order to achieve maximum performance. Wireless clients that connect to this router using WPA-PSK will run at no more than 802.11g speed. This option allows wireless clients to use either encryption method.

    Note: The user name and password are not the same as any user name or password your may use to log in to your Internet connection. NETGEAR recommends that you change this password to a more secure password. The ideal password should contain no dictionary words from any language, and should be a mixture of both upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.
