4.5.3. Internal head air pressure

4-18
1. Measure the ambient temperature around the head while it is
onsheet. Take the measurement 30 cm (1 ft) above or below the
sheet and 60 cm (2 ft) in from the sheet edge.
2. Test the results by performing several scans and observing whether
condensation forms on the guides.
3. If necessary, readjust the controller settings and repeat steps 2 and
3 until the optimal temperature is achieved. See Table 4-2.

Approx. 113°F (45°C)
4
Approx. 127°F (53°C)
5
Approx. 141°F (61°C)
6
Approx. 155°F (68°C)
7

Approx. 197°F (92°C)
10
Approx. 212°F (100°C)
Note that airwipe heaters are not present on the 4022-40 Wire Calender
Scanner heads.
The head is continuously pressurized with air from a bleed valve on the
Environment Control Unit (ECU). This prevents water and condensate
from entering the head when reduced internal head temperature causes
pressures below ambient. If the pressure is too much, the basis weight
Kapton windows will bow into the gap. To reduce the pressure, reduce
the flow from the bleed valve. If the pressure is too low, the humidity
sensor in the head will read high and an alarm will be generated at the
operator station.
