If AxiChrom column is to be manually packed it is important to select a pump that can
adequately supply the necessary flow rate.
4.6

Routine procedures

The following sections describe procedures that are routinely performed when operating
the column and/or servicing the column. These sections are cross-referenced from rele-
vant points in this Operating Instructions.
Identifying the hydraulic vent
valve and hydraulic outlet valve
The (hydraulic) vent valve and the (hydraulic) unpacking valve are both located on the
upper surface of the top plate. The hydraulic vent valve can be identified by its smaller
hole size and the round form of the nipple, whereas the hydraulic outlet valve has a
larger hole and the stop plug has a hexagonal form.

CAUTION
Never exceed the maximum rated pressure for the column. Be
aware that the column has a 'packing pressure' and an 'operating
pressure'. For details of packing and operating pressures, see Sec-
tion 3.2 Primary specifications, on page 22.
