F. Modules and CCA
(1) Ensure that all modules and circuit card assemblies (CCA), connectors and other individ-
ual parts, which are not or cannot be removed, are firmly screwed or bonded in place. All
modules and CCA must be clean, and not show signs of discoloration caused by heat.
(2) Check circuit card and printed wiring boards for deterioration, overheating, physical dam-
age, short circuits, and small cracks (opens) in circuit patterns.
(3) Check the following:
(a)
Cracks in the base material from hole-to-hole or outer edge.
(b)
Cracks that cross, damage, or interrupt the printed conductors.
(c)
Cracks at the edge of the board that do not influence any conductor arrangements.
(d)
Printed conductors raised as a result of thermal or mechanical influences.
(e)
Short-circuit risk from adjacent components.
(f)
Unsecured or damaged mechanical retaining elements.
(g)
Broken or deformed connection point of a mechanical retaining element.
(h)
Conductive or nonconductive contamination that has become embedded under the
conformal coating.
(i)
Mechanical damage to coating.
G. Electrical Parts
Visually check electrical parts for obvious damage:
(1) Check connectors for bent or corroded contacts.
(2) Look for deformed parts or parts with other mechanical damage, such as broken relays
and ceramic capacitors, charred parts, dry joints, etc.
(3) Check electrolytic capacitors for leaking electrolyte.
(4) Check cabling for loose or corroded connections, intact insulation, and breakage.
(5) Check blower for free movement; check winding insulation and that the collector is clean.
